Fusionpoint Supports Security Planning and Response Operations During International Fireworks Competition

Vancouver, B.C., – September 13, 2012 – SIS EmerGeo Solutions Inc. (EmerGeo), a leading provider of crisis management and situational awareness software, is pleased to announce that its Fusionpoint software was used successfully by the City of Vancouver Emergency Operation Centre during the 2012 Celebration of Light event.

The Celebration of Light is an annual musical fireworks competition held in Vancouver, British Columbia. The celebration is one of the world’s largest off-shore fireworks display and one of the most well known festivals in Vancouver with an estimated annual attendance of 1.4 million people. The 2012 event was held on July 28, August 1, and August 4, with performances by Vietnam, Brazil, and Italy respectively.

“During major events like the Celebration of Light, which occurs in the public domain, the City emergency management teams’ job is to facilitate the public safety effort. This involves activating the emergency operations centre (EOC) to support the coordination between emergency responders and other operational departments in the event area. Throughout the event, managing situation information is essential. Information on location of incidents, responders, and other event specific data supports the public safety operations and informs the  teams compiling situation reports that senior management relies on to keep informed”, says Mr. Michael Morrow, President of EmerGeo.

“EmerGeo’s Fusionpoint software has been running in the City’s Emergency Operation Centre for several years and is used to ensure major event security personnel, City staff and other key stakeholders maintain a high level of situational awareness during major events like this and also during a crisis or disaster.  The system interfaces with regional dispatch systems and not only provides a real-time log of events and common operating picture of planned and actual security activities, it alerts us 24/7 of any incidents reported that may pose a risk to critical infrastructure.  This early warning system ensures the City emergency management agency has an opportunity to take action to divert disaster or mitigate the impacts – depending on the circumstances”, explains Morrow.
