Integration through open standards
EmerGeo is built with integration and interoperability in mind. Using open web technology standards such as OpenGIS and XML/GML, and standard relational database technology such as Access, SQL and Oracle, EmerGeo provides a viable platform from which to integrate your data and systems. This standard technology platform also enables multiple organizations to share critical information from multiple vendor solutions through a single situation map view.

Integrating with GIS mapping systems
EmerGeo uses OpenGIS, XML/GML and standard relational database technology to ensure your organization can directly connect with internal or external Geographic Information System (GIS) and database systems. OpenGIS standards such as Web Map Services (WMS) and Web Feature Services (WFS) provide direct data connectors to existing GIS mapping systems, regardless of whether you use ESRI, Intergraph, MapInfo, AutoDesk or other OGC-compliant mapping systems. These data connectors reduce the workload, costs and delays associated with converting, importing and maintaining duplicate copies of data using conventional methods.

EmerGeo can also read many standard data formats directly without conversion, including:

Raster/pixel data:
  • TIFF
  • Geo TIFF
  • BIL/SPOT
  • BMP
  • DTM
  • ECW
  • MrSID
  • JPEG
  • PNG
  • RPF (CADRG & CIB)
  • PixelStore formats
  • SDTS

Vector data:
  • SHP (ESRI Shape File)
  • E00
  • MID/MIF
  • TAB
  • DXF
  • DGN
  • DLG
  • Geomedia
  • GDF
  • GML
  • TAB
  • TIGER 2000
  • SDTS
  • SQL (OPENGIS® features implementation)

Some of the most important lessons learned from events such as the September 11th terrorist attacks included the need to improve the way data is accessed and how information is communicated among emergency management organizations (i.e. interoperability). EmerGeo addresses some of these problems by providing open and industry-standard data, communication and incident command system interfaces.

Integrating hazard models
EmerGeo's developers have been involved in the development and implementation of hazard and predictive models for over 20 years. We offer EmerGeo customers useful hazard modeling tools that can support hazard, risk and vulnerability assessments and decision-making during an emergency. In addition, these models can be used with little or no training, which is an important requirement for emergency managers. Output from other hazard models that are available can be overlaid onto EmerGeo maps for planning and decision support.

Some of the hazard models available as "add-on" EmerGeo tools include:
  • hazardous materials plume dispersion models
    • ALOHA™ model interface
    • Emergency Response Guidebook (ERG) hazardous material plotter
  • earthquake model

Integrating and developing complementary technologies
We are continually extending EmerGeo's capabilities through optional interfaces to technologies such as:
  • emergency management software
  • notification and alerting technology
  • third-party hazard models
  • security (CCTV) cameras
  • SPOT
  • RSS feeds, such as USGS Earthquake "Shake Maps"
  • vehicle tracking and other GPS-enabled real-time tracking applications
Application Programming Interfaces (API's) enable integration or development of additional technologies that you may need to access. EmerGeo uses web services, XML, SOAP and other web standards to enable integration of third party applications. Whether you are a supplier or a user of technology that has proven useful for preparedness or response, please contact us to discuss integration opportunities.
